In 2013 the BCC Junior Sailing Classes will be transitioning to CAN SAIL, The Canadian Yachting Association’s new format which will provide better tracking and documentation of your child’s sailing progress. While the course offerings are similar to the traditional White/Bronze/Silver/Gold Levels, there are some differences. The BCC Coaching Team will work with you to make sure your child is in the proper class for his/her ability and experience. The CAN SAIL 5-6/ Chutes and Wires program uses 420 sailboats. CAN SAIL 5-6/Chutes and Wires racing levels are worked on but are not the primary focus. Sailors participate in at least one away regatta and several at home regattas. Developing tactical, technical and theoretical understanding of the 420, weather, sails, race course and much more is covered throughout the session. Each level can take longer than one summer to complete and require a sailor to be committed to the program and the team. Registered sailors should contact Amanda in the spring for more details on the program at junioractivities@buffalocc.on.ca.
NEXT STEP: Continue racing in 420 or carry on to the Lightning Junior Team.
