Instructor In Training
The Buffalo Canoe Club Instructor in Training Program: Applications are now being accepted until April 15, 2013.
BCC is offering to a very limited number of candidates the opportunity to shadow with one of our Instructors. Throughout the course of a summer, trainees in the program will volunteer their time to coach in sailing, camps, swimming and tennis.
You must be willing to assist all coaches in all levels offered at the Club, which includes Opti, White Sail, O’pen bic, 420’s, Adult Sailing and Daycamp, Swimming & Tennis. Topics covered will include decision making, supportive communication, goal setting, lesson planning, team building, and safety.
The following are prerequisites for being considered as an Instructor in Training at BCC.
1. Must provide a sailing schedule for the upcoming season, (include BCC programs and all other regattas). We encourage you to participate as much as possible in competitive sailing.
2. Must provide a detailed explanation stating why BCC should select you as a candidate, what you hope to learn and skills/talent you can offer other sailors.
3. Must demonstrate a solid understanding of sailing by having completed Bronze IV and be at least 16 years of age.
4. If you have other teaching/volunteer experience, please describe in detail and provide references.
If you are accepted, you must attend the BCC Training orientation and complete a volunteer confidentiality form and Code of Conduct. You must be able to commit to a consistent schedule for the 9 week season (exceptions are made for away personal regattas). We will offer you the guidance and practical experience you will need to become a potential Instructor.
